Forget what the psychic says.
Using simple, clear-headed strategies can get you where you want to be. It helps to always go with your instincts. A study found that when making simple choices, it pays to be rational, even if it’s just about what you’ll eat for lunch. But, when it comes to bigger ones, anything related to your job, you’re just as better off trusting your gut. That’s not to say, of course, that you should buy a car on a whim, but if you’ve weighed all the pros and cons and still can’t reach a conclusion, let your snap judgment be the tiebreaker and just go with what feels right.
Of course, you need to get into a stress-free state.
Don’t make choices when you feel anxiety. Wait a moment because you could regret it for a very long time. The reason being, you tend to act rashly when you’re nervous or upset. Research suggests that anxiety only makes you more likely to come to the wrong conclusion. So, if you had a fight with your friend while choosing between travel destinations, try to resolve the disagreement quickly, so you can make a more clearheaded resolution. And, since stress actually has a residual effect, wait a few days before you make plans once again.
Talk with a few friends who you can trust.
Chatting up your predicament with friends and loved ones to give you an honest opinion is a good idea. Hashing out your opinions allows you to further process the decision, and hearing their perspectives and take on things can help you arrive at a more informed and a much better conclusion, even if you don’t always see eye to eye on things. And, more importantly, avoid discussing it with everyone. So, you know that running your decision past a few key people in your life is smart. But, it’s better to keep the others out of the loop. Soliciting too many opinions, especially from people who don’t know you that well, can leave you with lots of conflicting, and not to mention, bad, advice. Before seeking out someone else’s opinion, ask yourself if the person is really in a position to know what’s best for you. If the answer is no, then keep things to yourself.
Never resort to alcohol as a solution to your sad predicament.
Put the rum down because cocktails make it much easier to act. Although one drink can relax you while you’re agonizing over a choice, more than a glass can cloud your judgment. And more importantly, rather than sitting on that really big decision, have a dialogue with yourself out loud at first. It will activate your brain in a way that allows you to process information more clearly and objectively. Remember, when it comes to life-altering details, mull over it for a while and don’t take too long. The world will continue to revolve, and sometimes, you could get left behind just because you hesitated.
As long as your intentions are pure, allow your confidence to shine forth.
